MapCatch Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 16, 2026

This privacy policy explains how MapCatch handles information for the MapCatch Android app, the MapCatch web service, and related event tracking services. MapCatch is developed and operated by the MapCatch team. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@mapcatch.app.

Account deletion

Delete a MapCatch account

Signed-in Android users can request deletion for eligible accounts directly in the MapCatch Android app from the account or settings screen. The app explains the deletion result before local account access is cleared.

If you cannot use the Android app, do not want to use the app, or need manual support review, email support@mapcatch.app from the email address connected to your MapCatch account. Include your display name or nickname if you used one, and any event names or dates that may help us find event-related records.

Eligible accounts can have account identity data deleted or anonymized. MapCatch may keep legitimate operational, security, abuse-prevention, audit, or legal records where retention is required. Accounts that participated in events, public results, rankings, official result corrections, shared activity, or other public event outputs require manual support review because automatic deletion may affect public event records.

Information MapCatch Collects

MapCatch collects information needed to provide live event tracking, route progress, event organization, support, and service reliability:

  • Account information, such as an email address used to identify the user and support account recovery.
  • Location and activity data recorded by the Android app when a user starts tracking, joins an active event, or records a track. This can include GPS coordinates, timestamps, speed, distance, route progress, and related event status.
  • Event and participation data, such as event membership, display name or nickname, routes, tracks, result corrections, progress, and event timestamps.
  • User-provided event content, such as event configuration, route information, support messages, and event chat messages where those features are used.
  • Technical information needed to operate and secure the service, such as app version, device and browser request metadata, server logs, diagnostics, and crash or error reports.

How MapCatch Uses Information

MapCatch uses this information to show live position and progress, synchronize event and route data, support organizer and participant workflows, provide user support, diagnose errors, prevent misuse, maintain service reliability, and comply with legal obligations.

Location Tracking

MapCatch uses location data only for tracking features that the user starts or joins. During active tracking, the Android app may continue collecting location in the background so an event or recording can continue while the app is closed, the screen is off, or the phone has restarted. The app uses Android permission prompts and a visible foreground-service notification when background tracking is active.

Sharing

Event location, progress, routes, nicknames, and event messages may be visible to event organizers, participants, support teams, or viewers who have access to the relevant event, public event page, or map link. MapCatch may use service providers for hosting, infrastructure, security, analytics, diagnostics, support, or email delivery. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services to MapCatch. MapCatch does not sell personal or sensitive user data.

Security

MapCatch uses technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal and sensitive information, including access controls and encrypted transport where supported by the app, browser, and service endpoint. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but MapCatch limits access to information to people and systems that need it to operate, support, secure, or improve the service.

Retention and Deletion

MapCatch keeps information for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain event history, support users, secure the service, and satisfy legal or operational requirements. Signed-in Android users can request deletion from the app account or settings screen. Users who cannot or do not want to use the app can request deletion from the email address connected to their MapCatch account by emailing support@mapcatch.app. When an account is eligible for automatic deletion, MapCatch deletes or anonymizes account identity data, such as the account email address and display identity, unless retention is required for legal, security, abuse-prevention, audit, or legitimate operational reasons.

Accounts that participated in events, public results, rankings, official result corrections, shared activity, or other public event outputs are reviewed by support instead of being deleted automatically. This review is needed because changing or removing event-linked account data may affect public results, organizer records, event integrity, or other participants. Event organizers may contact MapCatch to request removal or correction of event-managed data.

Children

Children may use MapCatch when they participate in events organized, approved, or supervised by a parent, guardian, school, club, or event organizer responsible for the child's participation. A parent or guardian should manage the child's account, consent, event participation, and location sharing where required. If you are a parent or guardian and have privacy questions or want to request review, correction, or deletion of a child's account information, contact support@mapcatch.app.

Changes

MapCatch may update this privacy policy as the app, service, or legal requirements change. The updated version will be published at this URL with a revised last updated date.
